The Catholic bishop of Nebbi Diocese, Rt. Rev. CONSTANTINE RUPINY, Visited the parents of some priests who died some years back in some few parishes within the diocese. All this was done in the spirit of Easter.
The beneficiaries, comprising elderly men and women as well as children in the chosen homes, received food items that included bags of rice, sugar, salt, soap, cooking oil, money, clothing materials, among others.
Speaking during the distribution, the bishop said the gesture, which is to be an annual event, was targeted at alleviating the prevailing economic hardship in those homes in the spirit of the season.
He said, “Today is Holy Saturday preceding Easter Sunday, which reminds us of the resurrection of Jesus, which is the hope of every believer.
“As we celebrate, we should also realise that there are those facing difficulties in life, which have been multiplied by the harsh economy.
“Even the rich among us are affected. If the rich are crying, I wonder what the poor can do. We know we don’t have enough for these families, but we want them to appreciate the little we give them.
“We pray to God to touch the hearts of our leaders and other spirited individuals to extend similar gestures to reduce the sufferings of the poor and downtrodden.”
The bishop Easter Charity was led and facilitated by Caritas Nebbi which is the development arm of the diocese, working for the bishop in showing love for his people. Caritas Nebbi has been visible within the diocese on many occasions.
The beneficiaries showered praise on the Bishop, praying for God to bless him.
